An app that helps you be a better neighbor.

"Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood."

—Fred Rogers

What Happened to Being Neighborly?

Communities are essential to solving collective problems that face humanity. Even though U.S. culture tends to glorify individualism, community is important to people’s well-being. Communities are essential to our physical and mental health. Communities provide opportunities to interact more with others and people in communities are generally happier and have a greater sense of efficacy.

As my life catapults me through adulthood, I find that it's increasingly difficult for me to form connections with people IRL (in real life). I'm admittedly terrible at staying in touch with friends, family and neighbors. Instead, I rely on social networks, instant messaging, video feeds and photo galleries to help me connect with loved ones, albeit through a bright screen and a strong WiFi connection.

I am lucky enough to own a home with a yard big enough for dogs. I am married and have plenty of neighbors living in single and multi-family housing in my neighborhood in South St. Louis City. But, when I walk out onto my backyard deck, I'm rarely met with that familiar "Howdy ho, neighbor," greeting of Earl Hindman's character, "Wilson," from nineties sitcom, "Home Improvement."

I recently found out that I'm not the only one in St. Louis who wants better neighbors. And now I am part of a small group of  software engineers, entrepreneurs and beta testers who are helping people become better neighbors. Together we are building a little app that I named, branded and designed:

What is Tasket?

So far, it's a way for neighbors to share small tasks and errands. It's simple. Send up a Tasket, that only your neighbors can see, describing your errand. They'll put notes inside describing whatever they might need so you can help them with their small tasks and errands while you're out.

Taskets don't move at lightning speed like on-demand, paid courier services like Postmates, Grubhub or Uber. Taskets are a playful and whimsical way to build communities. Once created, Taskets rise into the air as long as they need to—giving us all a needed break from the time-sensitive pressures of our daily lives.

They may not be the fastest way to get what you need, but all the best neighbors share a Tasket.
